Landmark Community Theatre prepares it’s autumn main stage production, BUDDY - The Buddy Holly Story.
The third musical of the 2014 Season is the telling of an iconic music legend, BUDDY -  The Buddy Holly Story, showing September 20, 26, 27, October 3 & 4 @ 8pm and September 21, 28, October 5 @ 2pm. The Buddy Holly Story relives the three years in which Buddy became the world’s top recording artist, achieving hit singles with The Crickets, becoming the first white group to perform at the Apollo Theater, starting a solo career and making a fateful decision during a February blizzard... The show, with Musical Book written by Alan Janes, features over 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits including “Peggy Sue”, “That’ll Be The Day”, “Oh Boy”,  “Everyday”, “Maybe Baby”, as well as Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba”, and the Big Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace”. The incredible legacy of the young man with glasses, whose musical career spanned an all-too-brief period during the golden days of rock ‘n’ roll, continues to live on in The Buddy Holly Story.
The musical had its debut in 1989 in London, where it became a huge hit, and arrived a year later on Broadway, where it lasted a little over six months. It has been reprised numerous times since in touring and regional productions. Landmark’s production is directed by Ian Deitrich with AJ Bunel directing music and Jennifer Bunger providing choreography. The production will open on September 20th and run through October 5th, 2014 for a total of 8 performances.
Heading up the cast is Rob Girardin, playing the role of Buddy. Rob was most recently seen as Grantaire in the critically acclaimed TOH production of Les Misérables. Dan Porri, whose credits included a role in Forever Plaid and Plaid Tidings at the Warner Theatre, will play Joe B. Mauldin, the basist for the Crickets. Rounding out the group is Frank Beaudry playing , Tommy Allsup, the Crikets drummer. Frank was last seen on the TOH stage in the comedy mystery, The Game’s Afoot.
Buddy Holly’s brief life is immortalized in this dynamic and heart-rending stage show. It’s a celebration of the man, his music and life, that catches that unique mixture of innocence, determination, humor and charm that was Buddy Holly.
The Buddy Holly Story, a high energy Rock n’ Roll Broadway  musical suitable for all ages, showing September 20, 26, 27, October 3 & 4 @ 8pm and September 21, 28, October 5 @ 2pm at the historic Thomaston Opera House in Thomaston CT.
