Backyard Theater Ensemble will present James McLure’s 1959 PINK THUNDERBIRD for six (6) performances beginning March 1st and running through March 10th, 2013 in the Arts Center theatre at the historic Thomaston Opera House. This production will mark the first theatre production of the 2013 season.
The play 1959 Pink Thunderbird is comprised of two hilarious one-act performances, Laundry and Bourbon and Lone Star, centered on a Vietnam veteran’s return home to Maynard, Texas, in the early 1970s. The show gives a laugh-out-loud look into marriage, brotherly love, and the slow-paced kind of lifestyle that existed in a small West Texas town during that time. While each act follows its own through line, the character relationships cross over to create one complete story that leaves little room between laughs.
Backyard Theater Ensemble is a volunteer theater group made up of adults who spend their spare time pursuing their love of the performing arts. The members were driven to form the company after funding for the community theater program in Cheshire was eliminated due to budget cuts. The non-profit ensemble produces, casts, and advertises these productions using money out of their own pockets. After a year of shuffling between different venues, the group was graciously invited by the historic Thomaston Opera House in the summer of 2012 to showcase their productions.
This will be the company’s fourth performance since its inception in 2011 and the second production at the Thomaston Opera House. Tickets can be purchased at www.landmarkcommunitytheatre.org or by calling the Thomaston Opera House Box Office at (860) 283-6250.
