Landmark Community Theatre (LCT) presents Broadway’s Most Beloved Musical, LES MISÉRABLES. LCT is in its second full season and is very excited to be the first CT community theatre to bring Les Misérables to the stage.

Most recently a major Hollywood-produced film, Le Misérables was originally a novel by French playwrite Victor Hugo. First produced in France with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, original French lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, the musical quickly spread to London in 1985 with an english adaption by  Herbert Kretzmer. Its phenominal success led to Broadway and a career as one of the logest running shows in history.

Colloquially known as Les Mis or Les Miz, this production is a sung-through musical opera and is set in 19th century France and tells the story of  Jean Valjean, a burly French peasant of abnormal strength and potentially violent nature, and his quest for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his starving sister's child. Valjean decides to break his parole and start his life anew after a kindly bishop inspires him, but he is relentlessly tracked down by a police inspector named Javert. Along the way, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into a revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade.

Epic, grand and uplifting, LES MISÉRABLES packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. Memorable music, such as Castle on a Cloud, Matser of the House, On My Own and I Dreamed a Dream lend to this incredible story of the human spirit that has made LES MISÉRABLES Broadway’s Most Beloved Musical.

Foster Evans Reese directs, with Dan Ringuette directing music. The summer musical of the 2013 season opens on August 3rd and runs through August 18th, 2013 for a total of 8 performances.
